Ice Hockey Rules Changes - 2021-22

3-3-5: Change:

ART. 4…If a goalkeeper’s mask, helmet or glove(s) is displaced, or a skate blade is broken or displaced, play shall be immediately stopped.

Rationale: A goalkeeper becomes incapacitated when they do not have a skate blade and it could become a health and safety issue for that player.  In addition, a loose skate blade on the ice could be a safety issue for any skater.

 

7-16-3 (NEW)Change: MOVE 8-4-2 to be the new 7-16-3. Former 7-16-3 is now new 7-16-4. Renumber subsequent sections within Rule 8. “Falling on or diving for the puck” has been REMOVED.

ART. 3…A player who leaves his feet to play the puck shall not make contact with his opponent.
PENALTY: MINOR.

ART. 4 . . . No player shall foul from behind an opponent who is in control of the puck in the offending player's defending zone or neutral zone…

Rationale: Moves the language to a more pertinent rule for the infraction. This change also clarifies the interpretation and application of the rule.

 

8-2-7 (NEW): Change: MOVE 8-4-1 to be NEW 8-2-7.

ART. 7 . . .No player other than the goalkeeper shall pick up, throw, cover or trap the puck with his hands or body.
PENALTY: MINOR. If in the goal crease of the defending team, PENALTY SHOT.
